Democracy Convention

Democracy is coming... to the U.S.A.

In the age of Donald Trump, Muslims are consistently targeted for racial, religious, and gender oppression from all corners of the political spectrum. Despite the Constitutional guarantees of "freedom of religion and "equal protection," Islamophobia, a contrived fear or prejudice directed at a perceived or real Muslim threat, reintroduces and reaffirms a global racial structure through which the inequalities in resource distribution are maintained and extended for the benefit of white, Eurocentric cultures. In this workshop, we identify the terms and examine the nature of Islamophobia to answer 3 key questions: What Islamophobia looks like? How it operates within the social construction of racism? What can we do to confront it within ourselves and our community?
