Democracy Convention

Democracy is coming... to the U.S.A.

The panel will address two critical opportunities for advancing voting rights restoration. First, Sarah Walker will address Republican and Libertarian outreach efforts in MN and will discuss the successes, hurdles and continued barriers. Second, she will highlight the need to expand outreach efforts to military veterans and veteran’s organizations.  In the past decade the number of veterans caught in the criminal justice system has skyrocketed.  Many in MN are languishing on probation being denied the right to vote after serving our country and sacrificing their lives. Nicole Porter will discuss state reforms to expand voting rights to persons with felony convictions. She will provide highlights on recent efforts in Nebraska, Maryland, and Mississippi. Shuya Ohno will discuss recent litigation strategies. Denise Lieberman will speak to rights restoration work in Louisiana, Florida & Virginia, with particular emphasis on the current litigation in Louisiana.
