Cheri Honkala, born into poverty and experiencing homelessness at an early age as a single mother, has for 25 years been a leading advocate for the poor and homeless in America. She co-founded the Kensington Welfare Rights Union and Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign. Organizing tens of thousands in marches, demonstrations and tent cities, she’s nationally and internationally respected for her anti-poverty work. In 2011, Cheri was the first woman to run for Sheriff of Philadelphia to stop foreclosures by big banks, and was the 2012 Green Party Vice Presidential nominee. She’s Vice President of the Green Shadow Cabinet.
