In this session, we will share information about how our organization started our Reclaiming Democracy internship program, which focuses on connecting environmental threats to the root cause of corporate influence on our democracy. We are one of few statewide grassroots environmental organizations working on democracy issues in conjunction with the protection of our environment. Over the course of two years, our Reclaiming Democracy program has trained twelve interns who have worked on a citywide resolution to challenge corporate personhood and created communication pieces on how corporate personhood threatens our ability to protect our environment and public health. We will also share how this program developed our multimedia resource, A People’s Pocket Guide to Environmental Action, a step-by-step guide to help community members engage with their government on environmental issues and concerns.
